Terminology 4.0.2 is now available on the App Store. If you have not already read about all the great new changes in 4.0, read the upgrade post.

    • Fix: Fix for case where migration of old data could result in duplicate actions.
    • Fix: Restore actions to default (in Settings) did not properly save the changes.

Terminology is a browser for the English language with three key elements:

    • Reference Tool: Extensible with URL-based actions, Terminology can quickly lookup terms on related web resources and other apps - making it a great place to start all searches.

Terminology has been one of the most popular reference apps in the App Store since its launch in July 2010. It has been regularly featured by Apple, topped the charts, and been a Starbucks Pick of the Week. This new version is a rewrite of the popular app, bringing to up to date with the latest iOS technologies.

    • Universal iPhone and iPad app.
    • Share and Today extensions make Terminology easily available from anywhere.

    The History

Long time Terminology user, or just interested in how we got to now? Read about the background of the app and this update on my personal blog.

    Upgrade Notes

When upgrading from previous versions of Terminology, favorites, term history and actions will be migrated into the new version’s sync system.

Pro unlock of the full version of Terminology 4 requires a new purchase. This decision was not easy, but it is simply not possible to fund ongoing development of software without additional revenue over time, especially at the low price points in the App Store.

    Terminology 4.0 – Coming January, 2017

    Terminology

Terminology has been temporarily removed from sale in the App Store. Why? Because a big new update is coming in January, 2017. We have been working on this update for a while and among the big changes is the fact that Terminology will become a free app and, although we had lowered the price to $0.99 some time back, we do not want to surprise recent purchasers.

We hope you will check back in January for the release! We’re excited about modernizing Terminology and making it the best reference app on iOS. Terminology still has the same great offline dictionary and semantic reference it always has, but adds some of the great features:

    • Share extension lets you lookup and research any selectable text on iOS.
    • Dark mode with auto-theme switching.
    • Audio pronunciations.
    • Add notes to any term.

    • More flexible action system can load web resources in-app or via Safari, as well as connecting to other apps.

Stay tuned to @terminologyapp or watch here for details as we get ready for the release!

    Interact 1.2

    Interact

Interact 1.2 is now available on the App Store.

iOS 10 is now required to run Interact

There are lots of improvements in iOS 10 that directly affect improvements to Interact, and fix problems in the Contacts framework the app relies on, so we are moving aggressively to require support for iOS 10 in the update.

    New

    • Today widget for quicker access to recent contact groups, the Scratchpad and search.
    • Backup your contact list on-demand, or enable scheduled backups to iCloud Drive. Accessible in Interact settings > Backup. Enable the scheduled backup feature to automaticslly save a weekly backup of all contacts to iCloud Drive. See documentation for complete details.
    • “name:” tag in Scratchpad based on new PersonNameComponentsFormatter class in iOS 10. If the Scratchpad fails to identify a complete name, this is probably easier, quicker and than forcing the separate first/last/etc. tags. It will identify given, family, middle names as well as prefixes (Mr., Dr., etc.) and suffixes (Jr., II, etc.)
    • “groups:” tag in Scratchpad. Takes comma delimited list of group names. If contact is successfully created or modified, it will be added to the listed groups. If necessary, the groups will be created. e.g., “groups: Family, Favorites” in the Scratchpad will assign the new contact to those groups, or create them if they do not exist.
    • Spotlight index all contacts, not just groups.
    • Show member count in Spotlight indexed groups.
    • Spotlight continuation support.
    • Better access to help resources via settings.
    • New onboarding experience.
    • CMD-F external keyboard command for search.

    Fixes

    • Fixes for using the pagination controls in VoiceOver mode.
    • Improve dynamic text sizing for contact list.
    • Improve context history display and fix head sizing bug.
    • Lots of misc. performance improvements and minor bug fixes.

    Drafts 4.7.2

    Drafts

The Drafts 4.7.2 update is now available on the App Store, addressing a few minor issues.

NOTE: We are actively working on tracking down a weird issue where the on-screen keyboard comes up blank when you return to Drafts in certain cases. I believe we’ve mitigated the issue somewhat in this release, but do not yet have a complete fix/workaround.

    • Fix: Change to attempt to mitigate an issue where the keyboard can appear blank when launch Drafts on iOS 10. Still working on a permanent workaround/fix, but these changes help minimize the issue.
    • Change: Dictation now opens with the last selected locale/language used in dictation pre-selected.
    • Fix: Today widget display issues with some dynamic text settings.
    • Fix: Do not double encode return parameter from /dictate URL (bug in last build).
    • Fix: x-success on /dictate URL might not get proper outgoing params.
    • Fix: Make sure Facebook basic permissions request does not happen unless Facebook action is used.
    • Fix: Crash happening for some users with “Create new after” set to “Never”.
