What is Terminology?

Terminology is a dictionary, thesaurus, and research tool built around an offline semantic dictionary – with integrated online “resources” that make it easy to research all aspects of a word, phrase, name, etc. For details read the product page for the current released version.

Please read updates notes for new version as they are released in the TestFlight app, or on the changelog below.

Only a limited number of spots are available in TestFlight! If you are unable to join, check back in a few weeks and we may have made additional slots available.

Current Release

We are currently testing Terminology 5.0, which is a complete ground-up rewrite of the app. Key improvements over previous versions:

  • New, updated UI to better fit modern systems and support newer technologies.
  • Offline dictionary is now based on the most current Open English Wordnet, rather than the somewhat dated WordNet 3.1 in previous releases. Infrastructure is now in place to periodically update as new releases of the Open Wordnet project become available.
  • Inline browser for actions has been improved, and now supports logging into resource sites which require or are enhanced by having an account.
  • In addition to favoriting terms, you can now create multiple term lists to group related terms for projects.
  • Enhancements to resource configuration to allow simpler construction of complex URL parameters.

The new version has an all-new data storage and iCloud sync system. If you update from a previous version of Terminology, your data (favorites, notes, history) will be migrated to the new system.
